Firefighter Wellness as Operational Readiness: Building Healthier Careers and Stronger Departments
My research interests focus on firefighter health, wellness, and long-term survivability. I am particularly interested in the prevention of cardiac-related firefighter deaths, physical readiness across the span of a firefighter’s career, and the ways fire departments adopt and sustain health and wellness initiatives.
My work also examines how organizational culture, leadership, policy, and implementation influence firefighter health outcomes. A central goal of my research is to better understand how evidence-based practices can be translated into practical strategies that improve operational readiness while also giving firefighters a better chance to retire healthy and live long, productive lives.
